I produced a mindmap today.
I am not very impressed with the standard. I do not feel my drawing skills are up to scratch at the moment. I must improve these and experiment with styles of drawing for ideas response.
I have focused upon three areas for this mindmap, areas that caught my eye when we reflected upon our group Visualisation responses.
Evolution
Religion
Isolation
Evolution - I thought I could reflect upon the 7 classic stages of evolution, how monkey has turned to man. The traditional illustration from Charles Darwin. I could combine this with the iphone as if the iphone was part of evolution, alongside the thumb, or maybe shoe the evolution of the iphone.
maybe the iphone is the evolved thumb!! What is the use the rest of your hand now all you need is your finger and thumb in order to work your iPhone you can do everything from there.
It could be the apple logo that evolves. From a natural apple to an icon. I like this idea and could use this ides in other realisations. Replacing the natural apple in a scene for the apple logo.
Religion- religion would be the opposite of evolution. Religion also implies an iconic image. There are so many religions that there would be a large range of options for the to subvert. However, I only really know about Chritianity in depth. As it is also the largest religion in the UK it would make sense for me to continue with this as it would be understood by the broardest number of people. I like the idea of converting a confessions box into out of order. A confessions box could be turned into an iconic piece like a phone box. There are various pieces of art which use phone boxes I could convert one of these images into confessions boxes.
Isolation - I believe the strongest part of the article is about isolation and a loss of connection. Isolation is a very negative attribute in human life. Everyone needs human interaction. I know this is a very negative take on the iphone. The colouring of an isolated lonely illustration should be dull and sombre. Think about the consequences of being the only one in the world without an iPhone. You would loose all connections with the human race and then you would be the lonely one. Either the iPhone is the new form of communication or it is a negative and a force to be stopped. Without human interaction what is the need for a mouth or ears any more. I feel isolation could provide a more serious response to this brief. Is this something I want to convey in an Editorial Illustration or should it be more light hearted.
