Progress On Reportage Project

Here I have tried to recreate a circus tent out of the cafe.

This week I have been developing my drawings from around Bournemouth. I have experimented with different styles and media. Whilst doing this I have been thinking about The format and what details of my day in Bournemouth I want to bring out in my work. My favorite drawings were the fish drawings and having been inspired by Zines I have tried to develop some characters from these drawings. I have tried to humanize them by dressing them in clothing and attaching more human features like teeth, legs and eyes. I feel this has covered up the fluidity and energy that is in these drawings and it is now adding comic value to the pieces. I really like these characters I find them really funny but the colours have made them look immature and I would like a sophisticated response to this project and for it not to be twee at all.  Putting the fish into scenes did not work very well without human attributes. I had to hand these 4 experiments in as my final piece to the crit as my printer broke but they work ok as images by theirselves. I decided the best image to work with as inspiration was the one of the fish with glasses waiting by the bus stop.

This image is simple and to the point not fussy but clearly funny, it is the most sophisticated looking.

My printer broke here i like the fact the images are united through the orange in each image

I have experimented with colour by printing the images out in different shades and definatly feel that one colour works best.
My printer broke and started producing orange tinted images. When looking at the images as a set I like the unity by following a colour through the images. I have done the same experimentation with my characters.

Some zines I found in a Zine shop in London
These are the main inspiration for my final piece

Looking at the zines I have experimented with drawing into the collaged characters. I would like to write about each character to add a personality to them and maybe put them in a scene from my Bournemouth drawings.

I want to make a quality zine with attention to detail and a theme running through to add a united front to the piece.

Here I have followed instructions to form a zine out of one piece of paper.I feel the result did not have the hand crafted feel I was looking for and feel maybe a sewn binding may fit in with my drawings better as they are containing thread aswell at the moment.
