Work Experience

I have learnt so much. I have spent days learning about strata-cut animation and how its is made. I have learnt the importance of attention to detail. Making sure you use the right cameras the right lense, keep checking the sense is in focus every few shots and perfect blacking out of the room. All this will make the shoot more professional. They have been using a programme called Dragon Stop Motion which I have been able to get to grips with. I intend to continue using it otherwise I may forget what I have learnt.

I would really like to use stop motion in this next project.

I have learnt about the process of strata cut.
In order to make a swirling pattern of rings, you must build cones of colour out of plastercine and stack them on top of each other like you would ice cream cones. By cutting through the log of plastercine horizontally you create swirls of colour. By moving the camera closer to the plastercine by the same amount that you cut off, so the distance between the camera lense and the end of the plastercine log and the lense remains constant, it is possible to create the effect that the swirling pattern appears on top of the log. By playing the animation in reverse again it is possible to create the effect that the plastercine swirl is sort of growing.

This is a fascinating technique and has opened my eyes to the possibilities of stop-motion animation and plastercine.
